English as a Second Language (ESL) Admission

The requirements for ESL admission are the following:

1) Completed application form. Complete an application online. You must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.

2) TOEFL Scores. Undergraduate student must have a minimum of a 460 score on the paper-based TOEFL, or 46 on the iBT (or its equivalent). Graduate students should present a 480 on the paper-based TOEFL, or 55 on the iBT (or its equivalent). With these scores, the student might have to take 2 semesters of ESL.

3) Secondary School Diploma. Send a copy of your secondary school diploma to the Office of International Services. 

4) Declaration of Financial Status.

  • A letter (declaration) of financial support from the person(s) or sponsoring agency providing funds for your tuition and living expenses for the duration of your study at Saint Louis University; AND
     

  • A letter (certification/attestation) from the sponsor’s bank verifying that funds for tuition and living expenses are available during your studies at the University.  The letter from the bank must be on letterhead and original; no copies are accepted. The current amount covered should be USD $22,000 (For summer, the amount should be $7,915).

Once the Office of International Services has received all of the required information, the applicant’s file is reviewed to determine eligibility for admission to the ESL program.  All students are notified of their admission status upon completion of this review.
