Student Visa Information

If you are not leaving the U.S., you do not need to have your I‑20 or DS-2019 singed for travel and a valid visa is not necessary. However, if you plan on leaving the U.S., the Office of International Services must sign your form.

You are not required to renew your visa even if it has expired or is expiring soon. A visa is for you to enter the U.S. Once you are in the country, you do not need a valid visa, instead, you need a Form I‑94 which allows you to stay in the U.S. lawfully. A Form I‑94 with an F‑1 or J‑1 status and D/S (duration of status) notation must be accompanied by a non-expired I‑20 or DS‑2019 to be valid. It is advisable that you carry your passport, I‑20 or DS-2019, and Form I‑94 when you travel in the U.S.
